Re: And now for something completely different -WIP

This is looking great Ed. I agree with Pat's comment that it gives the sense that you could just walk right into the painting. It's obviously loaded with detail.. To me it seems you've made a lot of progress in just two days. You say that you are moving along at a snail's pace - are you planning to give the other vehicles, etc., the the same level of detail as what you've done with the nearest cab? The reflections are beautifully done!

Re: And now for something completely different -WIP

Thanks for the closeup. The left rear of the closer taxi makes sense now, and I see you've redone the reflections in that area--they even show clearly the outward flare of the fender around the wheel well--very nicely done!

Your "snail on valium" comment's pretty funny, but I understand completely. In the painting I submitted recently of the man at the window, only the areas around the windows had any details, but the more detailed it got, the more onerous it got and the slower I got, like a bad dream where you're running through molasses and the faster you run the slower you go, yet the details in this far surpass that. But it's shaping up to be spectacular, so be persistent.

I'll have to remember that one, Ed. "A snail on valium" No matter , this is coming along beautifully. I really like the front cab. Color and reflections are fantastic.
Thanks also for the closeup. I guess I noticed that before, but thought it was part of the van. Nice to see the detail of your work.

Hello Ed,
I like your work and sense of humor!
You set the vanishing point a bit left from the center of the picture. It gives a movement. I feel like I'm driving and trying to change the lane. I also like the balance of details and non-details located on both sides of the vanishing point (like emergency vehicle and yellow cabs).

Re: And now for something completely different -WIP

Thanks, all. I really appreciate the encouragment...and I need it to keep my impatience at bay. The last few days have been pretty busy, so progress continues to be slow. The van is mostly done; I modified the hue of red on the emergency vehicle; the second cab is done; and I added some highlights to the street....it was too uniform. Buildings and background are next and then an all around touch-up. It really helps to do these progress photos. Anything "wrong" seems to pop out. I also look at the painting and the reference photo in a nearly dark room. That's when I noticed the problem with the street.

Absolutely amazing...it's looking more and more like a photograph - at least at this scale it does. I hope when it's done you'll treat us to a few more closeups. You're doing a terrific job on this piece, and I can see why it takes so long with all that detail and careful layering of OP.

It just gets better every time you post an update...

Fantastic, Ed. The shine and reflections on the vehicles is just great.

A daunting subject indeed! You are doing a fabulous job, however. I live the emergency vehicle, and what you did with the street, and oh, everything! You are turning a traffic jam into a wonderful work of art.
I'll be back!

Re: And now for something completely different -WIP

In an effort to try to save the weekend, I plowed ahead and pretty much finished. After a day or so, I'll do a last touch-up/fix-up. Here it is with a few details. Thanks again for the encouragement.

Ed, that is just amazing. I rechecked the size, and I don't know how you managed to achieve so much detail on your 9" x 12" paper. WOW, I'm speechless. Jane

Jane would've taken the words out of my mouth, except I'm speechless too. This has got to be really something in person with such excellent draftsmanship and details. It's simply great!
