My new artwork "Terrestrial grief"

I would like to show a first steps in the creating of my new painting “Terrestrial Grief” to you.
I have started to work on canvas 2 weeks ago. I am creating this canvas with using old master’s technique and materials. As example I use a flake white, special prepared linen oil.
I hope to finish this artwork during this spring.

Some words about the painting. It has biblical subject. You see the moment when Maria holds fabric with tortured Christ’s blood. I will paint the figure of the Christ that carrying the cross in the crowd of the people at the right top corner of the painting. This part will have bright light.
I have made the drawing and invoice by the brush on canvas.

Title: Terrestrial Grief (not finished yet)
Started at the 20th of March, 2007
Medium: Oil
Surface: Canvas
Dimension: 205 x 175 cm

Earlier I have created several sketches to this painting on paper. Here you can see these sketches.

I want to show all stages in the creating of this painting to you. I think it’s interesting. Here you can see the result after two weeks. Next stage of this artwork I hope to put into this thread at April.

I will be waiting for your comments, questions and critique. And welcome into my gallery http://www.painterilya.com/indexE.htm

Remarkable.

Sorry, can't think of any other words than that one right now.

Other than, maybe: I am deeply moved by your work.

Re: My new artwork "Terrestrial grief"

Your technical skill is superb. I wish for some more variation in the buildings behind the figures. In photoshop I lightened a bit under the porch and added some red reflected light on the two sides facing the figures. It seems to work better.

All I can utter is "Masterpiece". This work is to be amongst the classics. PainterIlya, please pull a chair beside Michaelangelo...you have the same vision.
