Siethira WIP
This is a new piece spawned from all the centaurs I've been doing. I'll try to get some photos of it as it progresses. Hope y'all like it!
This is on a 4x6x1/16 inch birch plywood board that has been gessoed and lightly sanded. The drawing was worked out directly on the panel using a water soluable Derwent color pencil. I like to use these pencil because I can correct the drawing easily using a wet brush and can keep reworking it until I am happy with the drawing. Also, when I am ready to start using the oil paints, this brand pencil does not dissolve with the paint solvents. This is the finished under-drawing, "Siethira" .

Re: Siethira WIP
I'll be watching this one. I like the movement of him stepping over the fallen branch. Very good.
Peace,

Re: Siethira WIP
This is the underpainting - just a blocked in stage. I'm working with Gamblin's Galkyd medium, a fast dry medium. Because the Galkyd also transparentises the paint quite a lot, I needed the underpainting. If I were working with just paint I would not bother with this stage. His coloration is a bit wild, I know! I did a wildlife painting of some bongo antelope a couple months back and since starting this centaur series have wanted to do a bongo centaur...so here he is, a lot more burly than my original plan. Might trim him down a bit as I go, he's just a bit too massive.
That second pic is of the bongo painting that inspired this one.

Re: Siethira WIP
Finally got some more done on it. It's finally getting past that 'ugly' stage! In this stage I have made some adjustments to his anatomy and added some branches in the back. I shortened his arms, changed the horns shape/color, trimmed his upper body bulk, and, changed the position of the foreleg. Next stage, final detailing!

Re: Siethira WIP
oooh, such warm, rich colors! I like the change in the foreleg, seems more natural now that a backleg and foreleg are in motion.
Waiting for the next one!

Re: Siethira WIP
Well, this is pretty much finished. I already listed it on ebay, and now, I see some things I left out and some I want to change, so I might have to do those and re-scan it. It's never done 'til it's done! LOL!

Re: Siethira WIP
Isn't it great when that happens! Great finish, Kerry! This one made one very original piece of artwork. I can see why someone jumped on it so fast.
Thanks for the WIP!

Selling a piece is such a great finish to ones work. Great job on this, the rich colors make this piece sing. Well done indeed.
