Dragon Slayer WIP

This is a gouache painting I've been working on and it's about half finished. It still needs shadows and detailing...basically it is just past the blocking-in stage. Hope to get it finished tomorrow.

oh, wow! I love the angle of the centaur. That's not a pose you see everyday! Great work!

Re: Dragon Slayer WIP

Great action. I really like the mussels on both the flanks and the arms of the Centaur. The dragon is well done and the colors are wonderful. I think the Dragon’s open mouthed pained expression is very emotional.

Re: Dragon Slayer WIP

Thankyou everyone! I wasn't sure when I started if I would be able to get the drawing right on this, but, I'm glad I went ahead with it even when I was having problems. It's finished now and I'm pleased with it, still, it didn't come out quite as I envisioned. So, when does a finished work ever live up to how it was planned, lol!

Re: Dragon Slayer WIP

This is a wonderful painting. I love how you captured such an amount of movement within it. The poses of both, centaur and dragon are lovely and the angle, as others mentioned before me is a refreshing change from what one gets to see on other images.

What has me totally in awe though, is the texture of the centaur's fur and mane. It looks thick and palpable, making him appear like an actual creature to the onlooker. Great work.

Re: Dragon Slayer WIP

Excellent twist on the St George and the Dragon story. I love the centaur. Well done.

Re: Dragon Slayer WIP

Great finish! The scales on the dragon came out really nice. Kudos on picking a different approach and sticking to it. The piece really has flow and movement, and it really makes for a very interesting piece.

Great job!!

Re: Dragon Slayer WIP

Thank you! I've always loved the centaurs, but, never got around to painting any until this one. I think I would have been more satisfied with this if I had painted it larger and in oils where I could have put a lot more into it. The St. George resemblance is accidental, but, I agree it certainly does look as if I took it from that reference. Probably did subconciously, anyway, since my mother is Brittish and I grew up with a strong english influence!
