We do remember too ...
Here's a watercolor I did a few days after the terrorist attack.
I post it as a tribute.

Only one mention of it came today at work because of an article in the NYTimes but I suppose on an unconscious level many are thinking and feeling. I certainly am!

Gilberte, thanks for posting this tribute. I keep looking at the US newspapers online looking for ceremonies. So far, not much. Maybe it's just too early in the day to have the information up yet???

I'm going to spend the day in three villages around here which were liberated by American troops 60 years ago today--September 11, 1944. There are ceremonies in each one, with a special laying of wreaths at the American Cemetery nearby in Henri-Chapelle. Following that, there will be a concert by an American Military band (weather permitting).

I'm also going to spend the day remembering (as we all will, I think) September 11, 2001. I’ll remember the shock and horror of that day, but for me it will always be a mosaic of images, without a coherent story:

--The planes, of course, crashing into the towers. Sometimes I long for those initial moments of horror, when disbelief provided a bridge back to life “before”.

--Firefighters rushing to help. I have always been plagued by a horror of fire—can I ever understand the heroism of those who will rush INTO a burning building?

--People waving handkerchiefs, hoping for impossible rescue from a building damaged beyond belief. Other people jumping rather than endure the fires. What would I have done?

--Buildings crashing down, raining an unimaginable weight of steel, glass, paper, concrete, computers, desks, coffee cups, and human beings onto the streets below.

--People with pictures of loved ones, hoping against hope.

--Europe, stopped and silent for three minutes on the following Friday.

--Notes from neighbors and friends who were as shocked and saddened as we are. For most of our neighbors, we are the only Americans that they know. To them, we represent America.

--The skyline of New York without two towers that “so proudly we hailed at the twilight’s last gleaming”.

--Rudolph Giuliani, walking through his city, assessing damage, consoling, directing, personifying leadership.

--The Pentagon, familiar to me as my own hand, broken, wounded.

--Washington, which is normally overwhelmed by an inch of snow, responding to the crisis with calm and determination.

--US airports, normally teeming and busy, empty and silent.

--Our country, under attack with the borders were sealed--not only against further attacks, but also against us. For a while, we couldn’t go home.

On this day I will remember with love and an enormous sense of loss not only the buildings that I knew well but also (and more importantly) the people who died in them.

We still remember here too.

The terrorists won't stop. On almost the anniversary of the Bali bombings they did it again. Target......... Australian Consulet. I hope to hell they can keep them out of Australia.

What a wonderful tribute & painting Gilberte. Very thoughtful.

I was sitting at my kitchen table listening to Paul Harvey on the radio. He mentioned that a second plane had just hit the 2nd tower of The World Trade Center. I was surprized to hear this & knew that anything that Paul Harvey has to say is no lie. So I went to turn on the T.V. & sure enough....... there it was......... I felt so bad for the city of New York. I was glued to the T.V. for days.
I will remember this day always.

There are memorial ceremonies/remembrances all over America: big ones, and small ones; personal and public.

This morning at about 7:10 I was sitting in the living rm with my husband drinking our morning coffee, still in our pajamas. I glanced at the clock and kept thinking things like, "Now, they would be getting ready for work: straightening ties and cuffs; putting on jewelry; fixing hair; scrambling to get the kids dressed & fed, while the kids are still smelling like sleep; some would be getting ready to board planes, or rushing enroute, hoping to make it in time to the airport.... all this on their last day."

Yes let's vote for the Universal Peace!!!!
I like your painting! I love watercolor painting but I feel it's hard, in oil you don't like something and you take it of, but no in watercolors!
