| THE DESCRIPTION
Every detail needs to be covered in the description; size, color, hues, style, defects, anything and everything needs to be covered. I see too many people state things like this, "measures 22x30, acrylics". Then they go into a HUGE detailed monolog about how they accept payments, how they ship, how much it will cost, what will happen if they don't pay promptly, etc....; it takes up paragraphs, while the description of the art doesn't say anything at all except the very very minimum. This type of description is a very big turn off for the customer. A buyer does not want to wait to bid if they have to email the seller for the simple information about an item that should have been listed in the description. Seller policies are important but concise information about the item being sold is far more important. The only thing on policy the seller needs to put in his auction is: shipping costs, types of payments that can be used, and contact information if the buyer has more questions. By being a member of Ebay, both buyer and seller have agreed to certain specific rules concerning the auction. The seller doesn't need to restate those policies in the description of the auction. You may also include in your listing a link to an offsite webpage that describes your item further. You have to be careful here because you cannot offer this item or any other for sale on this page; but, if you want to give more info on shipping, customer service, details on components in the item being sold, or other information pertaining to the item, you may. This will keep your descriptions simpler and give you the opportunity to tell more about your art and yourself. Listings should include all the info that a buyer needs to make an informed opinion about bidding! This can include, but is not limited to, size, terms to describe the item, the medium used, what components it contains, the style, the support such as paper or canvas, color, weight, or other specifics. These are essential to the description of the item! I would also include a small blurb about the artist, but, you can reserve a lengthier bio for your About Me Page. Include a link to your About Me page from the description. Sometimes buyers overlook the small link at the top of your auctions which leads to the About Me page. |
| FEEDBACK
Build your credibility as an Ebayer! Take time to grow your feedback before you start selling. This doesn't mean you have to spend a huge amount of money buying items that you don't need! Bid on items such as art supplies, instruction books, supplies for your craft. Ask for feedback from the seller you purchase from. Have at least a 10 before you start selling. It does make a difference! After you have feedback, do anything to avoid getting negatives. On one of my accounts I have a feedback of 601. The number 601 means that 601 different individuals have left me a positive feedback. In reality I have over 1000 positives but many are from repeat customers. I have a few neutrals but these are because some people are no longer registered on Ebay. A positive will convert to a neutral when a buyer is no longer registered. I also have 5 negatives; all of these were mistakes and most of them reflect this. You can respond to feedback, which I did on these, and the customer can post another comment under that. Most of these say I am so sorry, it was a mistake, etc...sometimes people jump the gun and post a negative and usually it is not the seller's fault but the US Mail was slow, or they forgot to pay and thought they did, etc....Most customers go and look and will see when a negative is for real. I would not buy from someone who has made their feedback private which means that they hid it from view. It could mean that the feedback for that person is really negative. I have learned that leaving feedback too quickly can lead to problems. A lot of sellers make the mistake of leaving feedback as soon as they ship the item. They don't think about what will happen if the customer doesn't get the item or claims not to have gotten it. This usually results in negative feedback to which you cannot leave a corresponding negative. Usually if you wait 45 days, anything that will happen will have played itself out and then you can safely leave a positive without worring about getting a negative. Waiting assures that you have a trump card to play. I have found this to be very important at times. |
| AN ABOUT ME PAGE
Ebay allows you to do many things with your account. Ebay gives you a web page where you can tell the world about yourself and your business. Templates are provided for ease in starting your About Me Page but you can also create your page with your own software and cut/paste it into the html block for your page. Ebay often uses My About Me page to show others what you can do to promote yourself even more. I use my About Me page as the portal for my Ebay Store. Click here to view My About Me Page AN EBAY STORE An Ebay Store costs $9.95 a month. I have found the Ebay Store to be successful. Ebay Store items do not show up in Ebay Auction Searches but you can advertise your store in your Ebay Auctions and on your About Me page. I have had up to 800 items in my Ebay Store at once. The benefit of putting items into your Ebay Store is the lower cost of listing in your store vs auctions; plus, you can list items for up to 4 months. This is what I like! Ebay throughout the year also offers free listing days and special pricing on options! I just recently participated in one of these events, and listed over 800 items saving myself 680.00 dollars!!! It can be a real boost to your sales. |
| Customer Satisfaction is our key term! We will do anything to keep our customers happy. I often ship them some extra small gift. This is something they remember and enjoy and if the item they bid on isn't quite what they expected, the extra gift usually makes up for it. I have found this helps generate positive feedback and customer good will. They often come back to see more in hopes of more freebies! |
