A Few Last Thoughts

As I push and pull, paint and erase, I’m constantly asking myself if the overall painting has a continuity. Does it have a consistent look?

It is always a good idea to let a painting sit for a while before making too many changes. You become desensitized after a while and true objectivity cannot be had. When you think this is happening, hold the painting up to a mirror to see how it looks overall. It will probably look MUCH better than it did.

There's always more that could be done. I could have added much more detail to the face and jacket. You have to decide how far to take a painting. For me, this one is as far as I want to go.

Thanks for riding along and if you had half as much fun as I did then I had twice as much fun as you had.

If you have the desire and the determination, you can do this, too.

And last but not least, I would like to thank the WetCanvas! editors who worked on this article - Leaflin, Penny220, and Caterwallin' - without their assistance, it might not have gotten published! My sincere thanks to each of you!

Here is the final painting and some detail shots.
