Title: "Bathing"

Info: 20x24 inches made with Golden Heavy Body acrylic paints and Golden Gel Medium on stretched canvas

This painting was done from a photo that I took on my grandson's first birthday. He is in the sink to wash off the birthday cake that he got all over himself. I stared at running water for days to see what color it was!
I thinned my paint with medium to make the 'wet countertop' and to show the reflections.

All anyone has to do is look back at my earlier posts to see what WetCanvas! has done for me. I have learned soooooo much and am extremely grateful for this site. The information here and the opportunity to learn and grow as an artist is priceless. Because of this site, I set up a studio and now paint everyday and am seeking gallery representation. My website is in the works.
Thank you WetCanvas!!!!!

Title: "New Beginning"

Info: 8x10 inches made with Winsor & Newton acrylic paints and acrylic matte medium on watercolour paper

I did this piece with the hopes of getting myself out of my artist block phase, thus, the title. I thought,'why not have a look through our very own WC! library for some inspiration', and found this great photo - just the thing I was looking for. I started it in the usual way, blocking in the main features and basic colours, nothing too complicated or over worked. I then went about glazing the under painting with some matt medium. It worked a treat and gave my colours greater vibrancy and depth. I think it worked better than if I had just used water as my medium. I guess it was one of the paintings that came together well in the end.

I never really thought about painting or doing any kind of art work before I stubbled across WC!. It was kinda lucky I think, dare I say destiny...lol. I was missing something in my life at the time and really didn't know what it was. I have always admired paintings and looking at them, but that was all, just looking at them. WC! gave me the opportunity to give art a go. I can post my work, get constructive criticism on them, learn from mistakes, and most importantly for me, not being shy of showing my work to others. The fact that there are so many brilliant artists willing to give advice and pass on knowledge of techniques makes it so much easier to grow as an artist. Being a self taught artist, I don't know where I would be without WC! and how far I would be able to develop my art skills alone. The acrylics forum helped me out with my acrylics techniques as well as things that I would never have thought of - from the use of matte medium, to how to post multiple images in a thread. And of course we have our very own Ivyleaf, who goes out of her way to give us all advice and information regarding acrylic painting.

Title: "Chicago Inspiration"

Info: 12 x 12 inches made with Golden heavy body acrylics in tubes and matte medium on canvas

This painting was inspired by one of, feminist artist, Judy Chicago’s installation pieces, called The Dinner Party. One component of Chicago’s piece is dinner plates, which are each exquisitely designed. It is the design of these dinner plates that was inspirational to me in creating this piece. The use of line, color, and symmetry are key elements in this piece.

WC! is a very special online community of artists. I have made very fine friendships in this e-group and find the artists here to be extremely supportive. The Acrylic Forum has been very helpful to me. The criticisms of my art from fellow artists and the encouragement I have received from them, have been fine experiences.

Title: "Behind the Happy Mask"

Info: 16x20 inches made with a hodge podge of brands, student and artist - the school's supply of acrylics is built on whatever was the best price the week my teacher went paint shopping. On canvas board

This painting was based off the idea that people wear masks to hide their true feelings. This concept came up again and again, in my friends' lives and in my own, during the past year, especially the summer & the start of school. The day I began working on it, a senior at my school committed suicide. While I didn't know him, I've been talking to one of his friends and I get the impression that he wore a mask pretty successfully at school. High schools are so fake! I want to make a statement, to get the message out about these stupid masks. With what's going on with the suicide and all, I wonder if God can use this humble painting of mine to change lives. I developed my palette around wanting to portray this idea in a way people wouldn't forget. Color is an amazing tool, capable of provoking emotions and making people think - don't be afraid to use it!

WetCanvas! has helped me more than my public school art classes. It's forced me to learn how to talk about my own paintings as well as about others. Hanging out on the boards, especially the Acrylics forum, has considerably strengthened my ability to coherently discuss artwork as well as my eye for general composition problems. I've also gained a wealth of knowledge about pigments and how my main media (acrylics, watercolor, graphite) work in general. My art teacher has commented on how much I've grown in these areas over the summer. She's the kind of teacher that it's hard for her to say anything good, so it means a lot coming from her. Thank you WC!

Title: "Marbella, Spain"

Info: 20x16 inches made with Liquitex High Viscosity Artists Color (tubes) and Liquitex Medium Viscosity Artists Colors (fluid) over stretched cotton canvas

I painted this after coming back from our trip to Costa Del Sol, Spain. I did a small sketch while over there and took a couple of shots of this particular street in Marbella. I love the white washed houses, cascading bougainvilla and lots of sunshine! I just had to paint it!

I love being a member of WC! I think it is the best place to be. I have met wonderful people here, wonderful artists...I have learned so much through WC! and I continue to learn everyday.

Considering that acrylics is my primary medium, of course I check on the Acrylic Forum activities every day. Acrylic Forum discussions about acrylics as a medium, it's properties and "behaviour" are giving very helpful information besides the enjoyment of seeing other acrylic painters works.

Great to know you all, friends!
