Title: “The Boulders” Info: 21 x 24 inches made with Atelier Acrylic Paint and Atelier Gloss medium and varnish (mixed with each colour before application), finished with Nuart gloss picture spray varnish for acrylic and oils, on gallery wrapped canvas Location: Daintree River, Tropical Northern Queensland, Australia Painted from a reference photo taken by myself after a visit to this very beautiful area. I used the pinky maroon for my base colour for the whole painting. The rock formation improved after some useful critique advice from a fellow WetCanvas! artist. The three large rocks were texturized with a technique I learned from the watercolour forum (courtesy of Rod). I first painted the rocks white then layered graduations of the greyish-blue in curved stripes across the boulder. I then took some glad-wrap(plastic cling film), laid it straight on top of the very wet, thick paint, and pinched it together with finger and thumb in all different directions...when I was satisfied that there were no big smooth patches left, I peeled it off... voila!! I have had so much help from fellow artists on the Acrylic Forum here, and from the acrylic specific projects also. It is also very helpful to view others’ work and see progress/response following the sharing of their art. I love working with this medium and found Wetcanvas! after searching specifically under acrylics--the best find I’ve ever had!! detail, below left full image, below right |

Title: "Sunflowers" Info: 14x18 inches, made with Liquitex Acrylics on canvas Prior to producing my first painting exactly a year ago I had no art experience in any medium, and believed that my ability was minimal at best. After one year of painting and posting on WC! I present a piece of work that I hope demonstrates the knowledge I have gained since then. In this painting I started with my own photograph of some sunflowers. With a little manipulation and some advice given by WC! members in the Composition and Design forum, I produced a number of preliminary sketches in which I defined the light and dark areas. I especially tried to pay attention to the shadows and composition. The WC! members who have helped me over the past year are too numerous to mention individually, and I have found the Acrylic artists to have been the most supportive - especially when I have felt that things were going badly. I think that this forum is one of the best for a beginning artist to get encouragement and real help without putdowns. I am very proud to have been asked to participate in this show and I hope this work will demonstrate to you how far I have come with your help. | ![]() |

Title: "R & R Time" Info: 20x24 inches made with Golden acrylic paints, acrylic glazing liquid, and a retarder medium, on gallery wrapped canvas. I used a reference photo to create this painting taken at Sanabel Islands, Florida. I never copy a photo exactly; sometimes I change it for a better composition and make adjustments to the shadows, highlights and colors as I feel are needed. This sunset and the ocean inspired me to create this painting. I feel this is only part of nature's awesome majesty. There are so many beautiful landscapes to paint and so little time! I enjoy using the glazing liquid to create transparent layers. It works well for blending colors also. The retarder helps to make the paint stay moist longer. Members of WetCanvas! have been very helpful to me in learning how to use acrylics. The forums are great for asking questions and receiving comments and critiques on artwork. I also find the demonstrations on this site very helpful and full of information. Being part of this group of very talented artists has inspired me to try new techniques and challenged my creative abilities. Thanks so much for allowing me to be a part of this special group. |
