Info: 12 x 16 inches on watercolor paper, Basics acrylics fluid paints This was done from a photograph taken by my late Father in New Jersey. He also was a painter and this photo inspired me to paint it. I used a dry brush technique to capture the textures in this piece. Title: "Whole Street" Info: 30x25 inches made with Reeves Student Quality acrylic paints on framed canvas I saw a similar style in a painting by another artist (have not been able to track down this artist's name) and thought I would attempt a painting in a similar style so this is a study I did of my sister's house. I really loved experimenting with this one though...especially with the shadows you get from using such bright colours. I'm a happy & outgoing person and it's important for me to include a lot of bright colours. It helps me express myself in my paintings. The WC! Acrylic Forum has helped me develop skills in acrylics, and confidence in colour composition and style. The people are nice all round and give helpful and skilled feedback. | ![]() |

Title: "Nightshade" Info: 16x20 inches made with Winsor & Newton Galleria acrylic paints on canvas panel. I have been studying up on surrealism, Magritte in particular, so I wanted to do something along that line. I used a few techniques for the first time and I was pretty happy with the results. To begin, I used a rag to rub on the day sky. When it dried, I taped along the centerline and used the same method to paint the night sky, using ultramarine. I then taped about an inch above that line and applied a second coat for the bottom of the shade. Next, I thinned some titanium white, and using a 2 1/2 " brush, I spun it out to create the stars. I then added the clouds and pull cord to complete the piece. I cannot say enough about how Wetcanvas has helped me. Though I tend to be a bit stubborn about taking advice, I am constantly inspired by the many fine artists and their various styles. The support here is tremendous, everyone willing to give constructive criticism, straightforward explanations of techniques and an overall feeling of community. That, coupled with the fact that my work is being seen by an audience far wider than I could ever have imagined, will keep me an active member of this site for many years to come. |

Title: "Friends" Info: 36x48 inches made with Liquitex, Winsor Newton/Finity & Pebeo acrylic paints, Gesso & Liquitex soft gel & varnish, on Stretched Canvas Gallery Wrap This is a painting of two people I know very well - William Bell & Rufus Thomas (Rufus has since passed away). I took photos at Blind Willis backstage after one of Rufus's performances. William & Rufus have been friends their whole lives and go back to the Stax days in Memphis. I found this pose with both of them having such a great time perfect for a grand painting. William Bell liked it so much that he bought it and it is now hanging in his lobby at his recording studio in the suburbs of Atlanta. The WIP thread on this painting is posted on WC! in the Acrylic Forum. WetCanvas has allowed me to grow as an artist and widen my horizons. Having first painted mostly in acrylics, I was able to see others work in the same medium and learn from their success as well as failures. I was able to put my own "failures" in perspective understanding that it is part of the learning process. Seeing how brave everybody is putting their work out to be seen by many and admired as well as critiqued helps me as well to know that I am not the only one dealing with challenges. Encouragement from fellow artists as well as critiques helps me to avoid working in a vacuum. Most importantly WC! is a life environment. Feedback is daily and that makes it exciting. full image, below left detail, below right |
