Artist: ALAN BLAIR.WC! name~ripvanblair
Title: Date With Destiny
Size: 20" x 16"
Medium: Watercolour on 140lb Cotman paper
Year October 2002.

The painting portrays The Mighty Hood accompanied by the then new battleship Prince of Wales, turning to starboard and making for the Denmark Strait, to engage the modern fast battleship Bismark, with such disastrous consequences for the Hood.

Wet Canvas has turned me into an artist. I was always quite good at drawing, but never took it seriously until I had to retire on grounds of ill health, I found Wet canvas through another artist Flattwo, and started showing a couple of paintings, and things took off from there.

I feel that the encouragement I've had from the other artists at Wet Canvas, especially the watercolour forum, has been invaluable. It has given me the confidence to do paintings I would never have attempted, and I consider them my friends, I've even met Taghera in Northern Ireland, when I was visiting friends there.

Wow! where does one start about Wetcanvas. I lurked around the forums for months too scared to say anything..then one day I posted my first piece of art work in the Pastels forum..the people were very supportive and so helpful that I just kept on posting after that.
If it had not been for the wonderful support and advice that I received on WC! I would never have had the
confidence to keep going let alone start University to get my BFA degree...this all happened because of WC!.
I have made many friends on here, too numerous to mention so I will say that they come from OZ..NZ..USA and other countries.

Title: Sunflower
Size: 10 1/2" (26 1/2 cm)X 11" (28 cm)
Medium: Acrylic
Year: October, 2002

I found WetCanvas! by accident while doing a search for watercolour lessons. That was 1 1/2 years ago and I have never left. When the opportunity allows, I check in at least twice a day. It has become an extended family. When I first joined I was very much a beginner in art and although I am slow, I feel that I have improved in leaps and bounds. WC! gives me the encouragement I need, mentors (who are hard to find nowadays) and the courage to try new things even if I do them "wrong". It is a large part of my life and I am grateful for Scott for creating this living corner in cyberspace and for all the members who make it home.

The painting I chose to submit is done in acrylic. I do most of my stuff in watercolour but I branched out to see what it was like to work in another medium. I was very pleased with it when I was done and it is always a good thing when I actually like something I have done *smile*

Title: Tayla
Size: 4" x 5"
Medium: graphite on Canson paper
Year: Feb of 2002

I have been a member of the Wetcanvas! community since June 2001.I joined on a whim and have been here ever since.:) Some days I may be here a bit too long, but I have met some wonderful people and cannot regret the time lost. lol

When I joined, I had been doing some small amount of work in
graphite, but the encouragement I received here helped me to stretch my boundaries.

Billyg encouraged me to "Paint like a millionaire" and so, I have taken up watercolours. My time to work on art is limited, but I find it an exciting and challenging way to recharge after a difficult day.

Title: Endo2
Size: 16x12 in.
Medium: Oil on canvas
Year: 2002

I have been painting for 12 years now. I began to paint again with a renewed effort in 2001. What sparked my initial interest is that I started collecting art, and realized that I could not afford world class art. So I
was left with no choice but to try and make it myself.

I was also feeling like I had been not really getting where I want to be with my art. Always waiting for something to happen, instead of making it happen. So my brain
kinda snapped like a twig, and I began to paint again. Endo2, shown here, was the first breakthrough on what has turned into a mature and individual style for me. Since painting it last spring, I have completed another 100
oil paintings, mostly as an evolution of my new style.I consider it to be a great turning point in my art.I discovered WC around the same time I painted this, and posted it in the critique forum. Despite the limited
initial responses, I found WC an invaluable source of knowledge and expertise. For many people here, and for myself until very recently, it has been my only outlet to share my art and feelings on art.
