After we found a location that we felt would be conducive to a good sunrise shot, we called it a night.

We awoke the next morning, refreshed, and ready for more plein air!

Here is the view we had in the morning, from the cabin porch. This is pre-sunrise, early morning light peeking up behind the lake.
We grabbed our gear and arrived on location.

Nope, this image isn't blurry, just mist in the early morning light!
This is the result of my early morning effort. This oil study almost borders on being abstract.
Here is a detail shot. I used very thin paint to stain the canvas in certain areas, then just poked on some highlights as the sun began to come up to our right.
Another close up, showing the bottom left of the canvas.

This was a small 8x10 linen panel. Working with this near-abstract style is ideal for small surfaces. The smaller your painting surface, the more important each brushstroke becomes!
