| Recently, my next-door-neighbor, and fellow WC'er, Tom Flaim (tomflaim), invited me up to his lakeshore cottage for an overnight plein aire excursion. A veteran stained glass artist, Tom recently took up oil painting, and was anxious to try his hand in the "great outdoors". Your humble editor, of course, was anxious to take a much-needed break from the daily grind!
We headed up to Lake Keowee, located near Seneca, South Carolina. With over 300 miles of pristine, tree-lined shores surrounded by the majestic Blue Ridge Mountains, Lake Keowee beckons the outdoor lover in you. The area is also littered with a dozen of nature’s finest waterfalls, which we just couldn't wait to tackle! |
 | On the morning of the first day, we loaded up our french easels and other gear onto Tom's motorboat. We thought we'd explore some of the surrounding islands on Lake Keowee, and see if we could find a good spot to paint.

 | As we headed out, we could feel the excitement in the air! This is a trip that Tom and I have bantered back and forth about for a while.

 | We searched for a while, exploring the various islands, but didn't find anything that struck as an "aha!" spot.
We finally found a spot that had some promise. In the image to the left, we are approaching the tip of a small island, which looks like it might hold something of interest. |
 | We anchored the boat, and unloaded our gear. Judging from the distant islands, the gorgeous sky, the dark treeline on our right, and the magnificent beach (complete with dead trees!), we felt we had struck pay dirt. |
