Well...keep playing with the mixture until its the right value and hue.

Yes, this looks much better!
Next, taking the #10 flat I swirl it through the wash a few times; hold it up to my subject – and yep, looks about right this time!

Lesson learned: I should have done this the first time! :)
I then take my large flat and make long horizontal strokes to quickly stain the canvas with the foreground green.

I tend to paint in a very impasto fashion, but those rich green undertones will be worth it all when they come shining through (or so I hope!).
Time to work up a nice mixture for that background hill.

I pull in some Cobalt Blue with a bit of the Cadmium Red.

Again, be sure to toss some thinner in the mix to get it nice and watery.
Doh! &$^$!#@@&@&!!!!!!

This is brown, and definitely not what I wanted!
