| Tips from our Art Talk .....
After dinner each night we would sit around and have our art talk time and then move to critque and help each other with the paintings that we had done each day. Here are a few of the paintings and the critque that followed. Each day we would display our paintings on the dinning room hutch. Then we would wait for critique time and lessons learned. Pick out and study the work of artists you enjoy. These will be clues to you on what will make you happy with your work. Study their brush work or knife work. Decide what it is about their work you want to try to learn. Study their colors. Read books about them and their life. Ask yourself, do I want my painting to be dramatic, suttle, painterly, or perhaps more precise. Plan ahead. Pack light. Remember you bug spray, sun screen and drinking water. | ![]() |

The Southern Ladies Art Conference continues to meet and paint together. In 2003, SLAC and WetCanvas members met together for a big paint out at Callaway Gardens. Another event was held in Blue Ridge, Georgia with Marsha Savage as hostess. On January 11, 2004 SLAC held it's first gallery show of over 50 works at the Thomaston Upson Arts Council Gallery in Thomaston, Georgia. If you are thinking of having an artconference or just want to find out what other like groups are doing, join the yahoo email group Art Conference. |
Phyllis Russell Franklin, aka llis lives in Thomaston, Georgia where she is the owner and resident artist of Southern Fine Art Gallery and Callaway Garden White Oak Studio in Pine Mountain, Georgia. Having no formal training in painting has not kept her from learning and growing from many other sources. She gives much credit to workshops, art books, and to other artists that have helped her along the way. She also enjoys the interaction with her fellow artists on line. She states :quote: It has been a pleasure to share, learn, network and grow with artists all over the world via the internet. I only hope that I can repay the gift in some small way by encouraging others to enjoy the art journey on line as well as off. |
